Violet Finvers is a kiln-formed glass artist and silversmith based in Burnaby, British Columbia. Born and raised in Edmonton, she moved to Vancouver to study graphic design and graduated with honours from the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in 1988. She went on to enjoy a successful 30-year career as a professional graphic designer before turning her creative focus to glass.
In 2008, Violet began working with kiln-formed glass under the mentorship of Brock Craig at Craig Studios. Over time, she expanded her practice to include silversmithing, developing a distinctive body of work that combines luminous glass with sterling silver in contemporary jewellery designs.
Violet’s work has been exhibited across Canada and the United States. She was a finalist in E-merge 2010, an international juried kiln-formed glass competition, and received the BC Glass Arts Association Pilchuck Scholarship in 2012. Her work was also recognized as a finalist in both the Made in Vancouver 2019 – Vancouver Magazine Awards and Western Living Magazine Designers of the Year (Makers category).
Rooted in her background in graphic design, Violet’s work is known for its clean, contemporary aesthetic and meticulous attention to detail. Rich colour, layered pattern, and tactile surface are central to her practice. Her functional and sculptural glass pieces — along with her glass and silver jewellery — are designed to bring a sense of modern elegance to the home, garden, and body.
Violet works from her home studio in Burnaby, BC.
